Crump was born on October 10, 1969, to Helen Crump and an undisclosed father. Crump attended Florida’s South Plantation High School. He attended Florida State University in Tallahassee. After graduating from high school in 1987, and obtained a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 1992. Crump also graduated from Florida State University with a Juris Doctor (JD) degree in 1995. He is a Sigma Pi Phi and Omega Psi Phi fraternity member.
Crump began his legal career as a defender of black loss of life at the hands of police or armed gangs when he represented the family of Genie McMeans Jr, an African American driver who was shot by Kreshawn Walker-Vergenz, a white female police officer. Crump founded Ben Crump Law, PLLC in 2017, and two years later he became the attorney for plaintiffs who filed a lawsuit in Flint, Michigan, due to lead-contaminated water.
Crump was appointed as a legal representative for the families of Black Lives Matter victims in 2020. Crump is married to Dr. Genae Angelique Crump and has a son Brooklyn Zeta Crump.
